2004 Top Draft Pick
The Red Sox knew that shortstop Dustin Pedroia was not the most physically gifted player when they selected him in the second round
out of Arizona State last June
But they also knew that his baseball
skills and instincts were well-honed.
And after Pedroia batted a combined
.357 with a .434 on-base percentage in stops at Class-A Augusta
and Sarasota, the Red Sox seem ready for him to start the 2005
season at Double-A Portland.

If the Red Sox are to succeed in replacing Pedro Martinez and Derek Lowe, the key to their success might very well be 28-year-old right-hander Wade Miller. Following a season in which a frayed rotator cuff limited him to just 15 starts with the Houston Astros, Miller became a free agent when the Astros failed to tender him a contract in December. If Miller can regain the form he had in 2001-02 — he was a combined 31-12 with a 3.35 ERA and 327 strikeouts in 376.2 innings over those two seasons — the Red Sox will have themselves a steal.
